Set in 2004 during the pinnacle of the pop-punk scene, ‘Dummy’ follows Divya, a 14-year-old Indian-Australian. With a burgeoning interest in electric guitar and finding herself increasingly drawn to the angsty rebellion of the pop-punk music scene (think skulls and smudged eyeliner at school), Divya sets out to join the clique of edgy, punk kids at her school. As the newbie met with constant ribbing from the group -mainly led by Illingworth, the group’s mean-spirited, tyrannical leader- Divya decides to make a drastic move, something bold, that captures her friends’ attention, gains Illingworth’s respect and makes her look the part.
